You might say Captain Ed Menster has manatees and fishing running through his veins. A lifelong Florida resident, Captain Ed fished the waters of Pensacola with his Father as a young boy in the 1970’s, often times pulling in prize catches bigger than he was! He moved to South Florida as a teenager, and spent time on the waters there fishing with his Uncle, who was a champion racer running regattas from South Florida to the Bahamas. The first time he saw a manatee in a canal in South Florida, he fell in love with those chubby mermaids, and the rest is history!

His love of the water led him to enlist in the United States Coast Guard, where he was stationed in St. Petersburg and later Yankeetown in the late 1980’s. He loved fishing the inshore flats and back country near Crystal River as well as snorkeling with our resident gentle giants in their own habitat, and decided Citrus County would be his forever home. Captain Ed quickly made a name for himself winning several tournaments in the area. Our pristine mangrove keys hold a wide variety of fish, and a day out on Captain Ed’s 24-foot Carolina Skiff or custom houseboat swimming with manatees is a day you won’t soon forget! Few places in the world can support a year-round fishery as fertile and plentiful as the one here in Citrus County, and he is proud to share our little slice of heaven with his valued clients! And Citrus County is the ONLY place in the world where you can passively observe these beautiful creatures in their own natural habitat.

In 2010 Captain Ed decided to make his part time passion into a full-time position by working on the water conducting in-water manatee tours and fishing charters.

The perfect fishing adventure has Captain Ed taking out a charter of up to four people for a half-day or full-day fishing excursion, where you will find the excitement and thrill of catching Redfish on light tackle as well as Snook, Trout, Cobia, Pompano and several other species of fish. Captain Ed caters to all clients, whether they are seasoned anglers or this is their first time on a boat. His 33 years of fishing the local waters of Citrus County means all of this knowledge and expertise will ensure that you come home with many fish tales and memories to last a lifetime. Just remember, there is a fishing season for each type of saltwater species, so be sure to contact Captain Ed with any questions regarding the species you want to target.
Captain Ed is also happy to offer half and full day scallop excursions for up to 6 people during our Summer Scallop Season, and also offers eco-tours where he shares his in-depth knowledge of the local ecosystem which uniquely covers fresh spring waters, brackish and salt water. You will have the chance to encounter a wide variety of species, to include seeing such things as a majestic bald eagle in flight, dolphins frolicking, or possibly even one of our resident manatees.
All fishing charters include tackle, bait, saltwater fishing license and fish cleaning for those who prefer not to catch and release. Of course, you are more than welcome to bring along your own gear as appropriate for the fish being targeting. Captain Ed has made many repeat clients over the years, because he doesn’t treat you like a customer; you are a friend for life!
